Welcome to Cicuto Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the most researched and respected of the healing arts. In its fullest sense, it is a complete medical system combinng herbs, diet, massage and exercise with treatment procedures such as the familiar technique of inserting needles into the body to effect healing. Acupuncture is used to address physical, emotional and psychological problems. The World Health Organization currently recognizes acupuncture as a viable therapy for over 100 diseases. The theory behind acupuncture is similar in nature to that of all holistic healing arts; people have an innate healing energy that when balanced, can return the body to a natural state of health.

Happy Fall!

The Lungs in Chinese Medicine

Autumn is the season of the Lung and its paired organ the Large Intestine. They are in charge of respiration, digestion, and elimination. It is a time when people with strong Lungs will be fine but people with weak Lungs may often suffer from:

  • colds and flu
  • decreased immune system
  • allergies
  • asthma
  • chronic cough
  • bronchitis
  • sinus infections
  • constipation
  • skin problems

If you or someone you know always gets colds or flus at this time of year, it's good to seek an acupuncturist's help early in the season to boost their immune system and prevent illness. The body is particularly susceptible to wind and cold during the fall. Dryness can cause symptoms of coughing, dry nose, sore throat, dry skin, dry hair and scalp, dry mouth and cracked lips, and hard and dry stools.

Adding more nourishing yin foods to your diet can promote body fluid, soothe the lungs and protect you from dryness. These are some more warm and nourishing foods and herbs to add to your fall diet:
* Apple
* Banana
* Beets
* Bell pepper
* Bok choy
* Broccoli
* Brussels sprouts
* Cabbage
* Carrot
* Cauliflower
* Cinnamon
* Cranberry
* Figs
* Garlic
* Ginger
* Grapes
* Horseradish
* Leeks
* Pears (pear juice is good for a dry cough)
* Persimmons
* Plums
* Pomegranate
* Pumpkin
* Red cabbage
* Rosemary
* Sage
* Spinach
* Thyme
* Whole grains
* Wild rice
* Winter squash
* Yam
